Semester Reflection

During the first semester of Sophomore year in video I learned a lot of new things. I made a lot of new friends and created many fun memories. The most memorable by far is seeing jared's video on ONW Now and watching everyones reaction to Jared the snake catcher. Through out this class we have done 4 projects. We have done a basic procedure video, an interview with just sound, a news package over the blood drive, a news package over a fellow student and an ONW Now episode.

The projects we did were fairly simple but they did have their difficulties. One difficulty I faced was trying to work around my partners schedule to film them. She was in GSA club so I was going to film her participating in the club and she would film participating in softball practice but we had difficulties because she just moved. in other words we had to find a way to film me doing something at school because she couldn't stay after school. Other than that the most difficult part or frustrating thing is not having enough b-roll for your video and that was frustrating because you can't repeat shots and if you don't have enough b-roll then your video won't be as good.

In general I didn't face many problems with projects or working with people. Other than trying to work around peoples schedules the only problem was getting enough footage. Also in the middle of the semester we had to switch teachers and that was a major shift because she didn't know what we already learned or did and at first I would definitely say there was some tension between our new teacher and fellow students. But after we got everything settled and solved everything else went smoothly.

Some things I learned this semester was how to create a news package and layer audio and video.
The technical skills were all things I learned form last year but I would say I improved on them this year. We used final cut to edit our videos and that is something we used last year so I already knew how to use it.  However my project management skills improved in this class, I get my projects done on time and I also am not wasting any class time.

Next semester I am excited to see what new projects we will do and what new concepts I will learn. Looking back on this last semester I know that I will need to improve on getting more and better footage.  I will also improve my leads and packages. New concepts I hope to learn are how to clean up my edits and how to do freeze frames.

1st Semester Reflection

This year I gained many strengths. Some of my strengths include project management, cooperation, and leadership. I have strong project management because I get my assignments done on time and they are quality packages. My cooperation skills are strong too because I communicate well with Haley and calm her down when she's stressed out. I have great leadership skills because I can lead people without being bossy. Also my leadership skills have helped me finish my work on time and work well with others. However, I have a few weaknesses like staying on task and being proactive. My plan to become more proactive is by helping out with more things after school and helping set up the broadcast. I will also sit in on the game day broadcasts and learn how to work the equipment. I will stay on task by working on my portfolio and my blogs. Overall this semester was very successful. I learned how to work well with others and what it takes to be a strong leader. I also learned how to be a go...

Professional Project Review

In this video Lynn Dillard films him and his daughter donating blood to the American Red Cross ( Dilliard, Lynn Wray. "Red Cross Blood Drive."  YouTube . YouTube, 17 Aug. 2012. Web. 11 Nov. 2015.) This video didn’t use the rule of thirds when interviewing people. The camera was very shaky when he was filming himself giving blood. Another thing was that there were awkward camera angles and he didn’t use the six shot system. The music choice was poor it didn’t go with the theme or story of the video. This video didn’t really have a story it was mainly a video of them giving blood and it was told through a donors perspective. The one thing I would apply in my video that this video had was that the camera was focused correctly. One thing I’ve learned that this video has is the correct way to white balance. The creator of this video did a decent job on focusing the camera and using good lighting however, they need to work on telling a story an...
